IN 1997, PRADA CEO PATRIZIO BERTELLI AND DESIGNER GERMAN FRERS PLANNED A CRUISING YACHT, BUT INSTEAD FOUNDED THE LUNA ROSSA SAILING TEAM.
PRADA, ALONGSIDE YACHT CLUB PUNTA ALA, COMPETED IN THE 2000 AMERICA’S CUP AFTER WINNING THE LOUIS VUITTON CUP, AND REACHED THE SEMI-FINALS AGAIN IN 2003.
THIS INITIATIVE PUSHED PRADA TO DEVELOP NEW MATERIALS AND DESIGNS FOR THE TEAM’S UNIFORMS.
THIS PARTICULAR PIECE IS THE VEST EDITION RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC, MODELLED AFTER THE OFFICIAL TEAM JACKETS FOR THE 2003 AMERICA’S CUP. IT IS CONSTRUCTED FROM THE HIGHEST QUALITY GORE-TEX MATERIALS WITH TAPED SEAMS FOR OPTIMUM WATERPROOFING AND PROTECTION AGAINST THE HARSH CONDITIONS. THE VEST FOLLOWS THE DESIGN OF THE POPULAR GORE-TEX SHELLS FROM THE PRADA SPORT LINE, FEATURING TWO ZIPPERED HAND POCKETS AND AN ELASTICATED HEM.
